What Small / Low means

On Samsung washers without a digital display, a blinking Small or Low water level light is the pattern for a no-drain error. The control sees that water is not leaving the tub, so it stops the cycle. This follows the drain group on numeric displays. The drum is left with water in it. You may find water still sitting in the drum, and the light keeps blinking until it drains.

Common causes of Small / Low

  • Kinked or clogged drain hose
  • Drain pump blockage
  • Drain pump or its wiring
  • Standpipe clog
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the washer off. 2. Check the drain hose for kinks and make sure it is seated in the standpipe. 3. Turn the washer on and try a drain or spin cycle. 4. If water stays or the light blinks again, request service. If water reached the floor, keep the washer unplugged until it is inspected.

! Why to stop there
  • A clear hose and standpipe leave the pump or its wiring as the cause.
  • We test the drain pump and check for a blockage.
  • We check whether the standpipe is draining your house line.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Small / LowSmall / Low questions
Which light blinks for no-drain?

The Small or Low level light, depending on how your model labels it. The pattern means water is not leaving the tub, and the drain hose is the first thing to check.

Is it the hose?

Often. A kink or clog stops water from leaving. Check that first. Make sure the hose is seated in the standpipe and not pushed in too far. If water still stays, the pump needs a look.

Can I leave water in the drum?

It is better not to. Standing water can smell and leak. If water reached the floor or the cabinet, keep the washer unplugged until we inspect it. Water left in the drum can also leave a smell.
