What Hot & Warm means

On Samsung washers without a digital display, the Hot light blinking with the Warm light is the pattern for an unbalanced load error. The load has bunched to one side of the drum, so the washer stops spinning to avoid shaking. This follows the unbalanced group on numeric displays. You may hear thumping or find the cycle paused. Most of the time the cause is simply how the clothes sit in the drum.

Common causes of Hot & Warm

  • Laundry bunched on one side
  • Single heavy item
  • Washer not level
  • Drum movement
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Open the door and untangle or spread out the laundry. 2. Mix large and small items so the load is even. 3. Close the door and restart the cycle. 4. If it continues, check that the washer is level and request service.

! Why to stop there
  • If the lights blink with a small, even load, the cause is not the laundry.
  • We check that the washer is level and test the drum's movement.
  • We confirm the sensor reads the drum motion correctly.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Hot & WarmHot & Warm questions
Why does it stop spinning?

The control stops the spin to prevent shaking when the load is lopsided. Redistributing the laundry usually fixes it. Open the door and spread the laundry out before restarting.

Is this a breakdown?

Usually not. It is the washer protecting itself from an uneven load. Spreading the laundry evenly usually clears it, and a repeat with a small even load is the sign that we should test the sensing.

What if it happens with every load?

Then the washer may not be level or the sensing needs testing, and we can check both. A washer that sits unevenly can show the pattern on nearly every load. We test the sensing too.
