What Hot & Medium / Hot & Mid means

Samsung washers without a digital display signal a heater error by blinking the Hot light together with the Medium or Mid light. The control reports a problem in the heater circuit and stops the cycle. This follows the heater group on washers with a numeric display. The tub may fill, but the cycle stops before heating finishes. The tub may fill normally before the cycle stops.

Common causes of Hot & Medium / Hot & Mid

  • Heater element and wiring
  • Heater temperature sensor reading
  • Water level during heating
  • Main board heater output
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the washer off and wait a few minutes. 2. Turn it on and restart the cycle. 3. Check that the water supply valves are fully open. 4. If the lights blink again, schedule a visit and avoid hot cycles.

! Why to stop there
  • A restart cannot tell us whether the heater, its sensor, or the water level is involved.
  • We test the heater and its sensor.
  • You see the written price before any heater or board is replaced.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Hot & Medium / Hot & MidHot & Medium / Hot & Mid questions
What do Hot and Medium blinking mean?

On a washer without a digital display, that pair is the pattern for a heater error. It is the same condition that numeric-display washers show as HC or HE. Telling us the lights you see helps us confirm it.

Could low water cause it?

Yes. A heater that runs without enough water can trip protection. Check that the supply valves are open. The tub must fill before heating starts, so also make sure the water is actually reaching the washer.

Can I wash cold?

The code usually stops the cycle. We can tell you more after checking the heater circuit. Even if some cycles start, the heater problem usually repeats, so we would rather check it before it affects a load.
