What 4C / 4E / nF means
On Samsung washers with a digital display, front-load and top-load, 4C, 4E, nF and 1 4C all mean the washer is not filling. Water is not entering correctly, which the brand calls a not filling error. It can be a closed valve, a kinked hose or a clogged inlet screen, and the control reports it when the expected water level does not come. You will see the code and the cycle will not go on.
Common causes of 4C / 4E / nF
- Water supply valve not fully open
- Hose kinked or connected to the wrong inlet
- Inlet screens blocked with debris
- Drain hose set too low causing siphoning
- Inlet valve
1. Check that hot goes to hot and cold goes to cold, and that neither hose is kinked. 2. Do not use Flood Safe hoses. 3. Open both water valves fully. 4. Make sure the drain hose is inserted six to eight inches and not kinked. Do not remove the screw on the back. 5. Unplug the washer or turn off the breaker for one minute. Check the inlet screens for debris.
- If water reaches the washer and 4C stays, we cannot tell whether the inlet valve or the level sensing is behind it.
- We test the inlet valves and screens and the level circuit before recommending a part.
- Valve and hose work is priced in writing beforehand, and the workmanship carries a 30-day warranty.

Why do Flood Safe hoses matter?
Those hoses can restrict flow to the washer. Using plain hoses removes that restriction from the water supply. Plain hoses with clear flow let the washer fill within its expected time, so swap them if yours are of that type.
How do I check the inlet screens?
Turn off the water and unplug the washer, then unscrew each hose and look at the screen in the inlet for debris. Take care not to bend it.
Is 4C a wiring issue?
Not usually. We start with the supply and the valves, then test the electrical side. The control only reports that filling did not happen, so the cause could be anywhere on that route, and we test each step.
