What C to P means
On Samsung ranges with a cooktop in the US, C to P is the message shown when you try to start Self Clean while one or more cooktop burners or elements are still in use. On some displays it appears as a small picture instead of letters. The owner sees the message, and the Self Clean cycle does not begin. It is a protective interlock and not a breakdown, and the range itself is working as designed.
Common causes of C to P
- Burner or element left on during an attempt to start Self Clean
- Knob not fully in the off position
- Control reading a cooktop control as active
- Cooktop switch that stays on when all knobs are off
1. Turn every burner or element off and check that each knob is fully in the off position. 2. Let the cooktop cool. 3. Start the Self Clean cycle again. 4. Remove pots and pans from the cooktop before starting Self Clean.
- If C to P appears with every burner confirmed off, we test the cooktop controls and the signal they send
- We check whether a knob switch reports as on when it is off
- We write the price down before any work, and the repair has 30 days of workmanship coverage

Why won't Self Clean start on my Samsung range?
The range refuses to begin Self Clean while any cooktop burner or element is in use. Turn them all off, confirm the knobs are fully off, and try the cycle again.
Is C to P a problem with the oven?
No. It is a protective message. The oven is fine, and the cycle will begin once every part of the cooktop is off and the control sees that.
What if all my burners are off and C to P stays?
Then a knob switch or its signal may be reporting a burner as on. That needs testing, and we can check it with a written price first.
Still unsure about C to P?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
