What LC / LE means
On Samsung dishwashers with a digital display, such as the DW80T5040US that shows LC, this code means the leak sensor has picked up moisture in the base of the tub. The dishwasher then switches itself on and keeps trying to drain, and it will not shut off while it does. On WaterWall models the same code can also point to a blocked reflector. You will see LC or LE on the display and hear the pump running with no cycle chosen.
Common causes of LC / LE
- Water standing in the base pan from a door seal, spray arm, or hose connection that is leaking
- A reflector blocked on a WaterWall model
- A drain hose or air gap that is slowing the drain and letting water rise
- The leak sensor reading moisture after an earlier spill
1. Look at the floor in front of the dishwasher and under the sink for standing water, and wipe up any you find. 2. On a WaterWall model, check that the reflector is clear and seated. 3. Check that the drain hose under the sink is not kinked or crushed. 4. Look at the door gasket for food debris or a gap. 5. If the display still shows the code once it has finished draining, stop using the dishwasher and have it checked.
- A drained tub does not tell us where the water came from, so we trace the leak path from the door seal down to the pump housing.
- A leak sensor that still reads wet after drying may need testing before we know whether the sensor or a hidden drip is behind it.
- We give you a written price before any work, and our repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Dishwasher codes
Why does my dishwasher run by itself with LC on the display?
The leak sensor has detected moisture, so the dishwasher starts draining on its own to move the water out. It keeps doing that until the sensor reads dry, which is why it will not turn off.
Will I see LE instead of LC?
On Samsung dishwashers with a digital display the two are listed together as a leakage error. Which one you see depends on the display, and we treat them as the same condition.
Can I keep running the dishwasher after LC?
We would not. If water is getting out, it can damage the floor and cabinet. Dry the area, check the simple items, and if the code returns we test for the leak before the next cycle.
Still seeing LC / LE?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
