What Blinking: Normal + Heavy means

Normal and Heavy blinking together on a Samsung dishwasher without a digital display means the thermistor is not operating correctly. The thermistor is the temperature sensor that tells the control how warm the water is. Light names can differ by model. With a reading it cannot rely on, the control stops the cycle. You may find the dishes washed in water that never warmed, or a cycle that ends early.

Common causes of Blinking: Normal + Heavy

  • Thermistor reading outside its normal range
  • Thermistor wiring and connection
  • Whether a power reset changes what the lights do
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the dishwasher off, then cut power at the breaker for 30 seconds. 2. Switch it back on. 3. Fill the detergent drawer. 4. Run a Normal cycle. 5. If the lights blink again, call us. Tell us whether the dishes came out warm.

! Why to stop there
  • A reset cannot tell us whether the thermistor or its wiring is off.
  • We compare the reading with the true water temperature.
  • A written quote comes first, followed by 30 days of workmanship coverage.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
Blinking: Normal + HeavyBlinking: Normal + Heavy questions
What is a thermistor?

It is the sensor that reports water temperature to the control. If it reads wrongly, the control cannot manage the heating. We check it against the real water temperature during a test run.

How is this different from a short-circuited thermistor?

Both involve the same sensor. This pattern says it is not operating correctly, while another says it shorted. We test the sensor either way. The repair path is similar, but the readings we expect differ.

Should I wait before running it again?

We suggest waiting until the reading is checked. Hand washing is the safer choice until we test the sensor and its connection. That keeps dishes clean in the meantime.
