What OC / 0C / oE means
This applies to Samsung dishwashers with a digital display, for example the DW80T5040US that shows OC. The code is an over-level water error: the dishwasher has detected more water in the tub than it should hold. The characters can appear as OC, 0C, or oE depending on the display, and all three point to the same condition. You will see the code and the cycle will stop, often with water left in the bottom of the tub.
Common causes of OC / 0C / oE
- A drain that is slow or restricted, so water cannot leave the tub fast enough
- The water inlet valve letting water in when it should be closed
- The water level sensing circuit reading incorrectly
- A drain hose that is kinked or looped too low
1. Press Cancel or Start/Pause and let the dishwasher drain if it will. 2. Look in the bottom of the tub and clear any food or debris from the drain area. 3. Check the drain hose under the sink for kinks and make sure it is not crushed behind the unit. 4. If the sink drain is backed up, clear it first. 5. Run a short cycle. If the code returns, stop using the dishwasher.
- Water that will not leave and water that keeps arriving look alike on the display, so we test the drain path and the inlet separately.
- A level reading that is wrong without extra water in the tub points to the sensing circuit, which we check with the machine empty.
- We quote in writing before we start and back our work for 30 days.
Other Dishwasher codes
What does OC mean on a Samsung dishwasher?
It is the over-level water error. The dishwasher has sensed more water than it should have in the tub, so it stops the cycle and shows the code until the water level is corrected.
Is 0C different from OC?
A zero and the letter O look nearly the same on the display. Both, along with oE, are listed as the same over-level error, so the checks are identical for all three.
Should I bail out the water myself?
Taking out standing water with a cup or towel is fine if the unit is off. Do not reach into the area behind the lower panel. If the code comes back, we find out why the water is not clearing.
