What 1E / IE (rotary models) means
On Samsung dishwashers with a rotary dial, the code 1E or IE is a high-temperature heater error. It means the dishwasher has detected overheating inside the tub or around the heater. This is different from other Samsung dishwashers, where the same 1E or IE characters point to a clogged filter. On a rotary-dial model the dishwasher usually stops the cycle and shows the code, and the water or tub may feel very hot.
Common causes of 1E / IE (rotary models)
- Heater element and its temperature sensor
- Water level during the heating stage
- Circulation of water through the spray arms
- Control reading of the heating circuit
1. Turn the dishwasher off at the dial and let it cool for a while before opening the door. 2. Power cycle it by cutting power for a short time, then restoring it. 3. Run a normal cycle and watch whether the code returns. 4. If it returns, stop using the dishwasher and call us.
- A power cycle clears a one-time reading but not an overheating circuit.
- We confirm the platform, then test the heater and sensor on site.
- The price is given in writing before work, and the repair carries a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Dishwasher codes
Does 1E mean a clogged filter on my dishwasher?
On other Samsung dishwashers it does, but on rotary-dial models 1E or IE points to heater overheating. We confirm which type of dishwasher you have before we test anything.
Is overheating dangerous?
It can be, which is why we do not suggest running it repeatedly. Let it cool completely and stop using it if the code comes back.
Should I clean the filter first?
Cleaning the filter is a fine habit but it does not address this code on a rotary model. The heater circuit and its sensor need the check instead.
