What dC / dE / dL means
Samsung washers with a digital display, front-load and top-load, show dC, dE, or dL when the control does not detect the door as closed and locked. Related characters in the same group include dS, d5, FL, LO, and dE1. On some models dC means an unbalanced load instead, so check your manual if the door is clearly shut. The cycle will not start or stops, and the door may seem fine to the eye.
Common causes of dC / dE / dL
- Door latch and strike alignment
- Something caught in the door seal or opening
- Door lock switch reading
- Child Lock with water left in the tub
1. Open the door, check nothing is caught in the seal or the latch area, and close it firmly until it clicks. 2. Restart the cycle. 3. If Child Lock is on and water is in the tub, wait about 30 seconds for it to drain. 4. On a FlexWash showing 1dC4, check the rubber button next to the upper washer latch; if it is missing, no service is needed. 5. If the latch looks damaged or the code returns, request service.
- A door that looks closed can still fail to register as locked, so we test the latch and switch itself.
- We check the strike alignment and the lock mechanism's response.
- We confirm which meaning of dC applies to your model before testing.
Other Washer codes
The door is closed, so why does it say dC?
The control needs to detect the door as both closed and locked. A latch that does not fully catch, or a switch that does not register, produces the code even when the door looks shut.
Could dC mean something other than the door?
On some models dC means an unbalanced load. If the door latches cleanly and the code stays, redistributing the load is worth a try, and we can confirm which applies.
What is 1dC4 on a FlexWash?
It means a rubber button next to the upper washer latch is missing. The washer does not need service for that, only the small part replaced.
