What HC means

HC has two readings on the Samsung WD53DBA900H-series Bespoke AI Laundry Combo, such as the WD53DBA900HZA1. On the wash side it reports a washing heater error, shown as HC or HC1. On the dry side it reports an overheated compressor, where the readings from the two evaporator thermistors are outside the expected range. You will see HC and the cycle stops, and the unit may feel hot.

Common causes of HC

  • Washing heater circuit on the wash side
  • Evaporator inlet or outlet thermistor on the dry side
  • Compressor running hot
  • Blocked airflow or dirty filter
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the unit off and let it cool with the door left slightly open if you can open it. 2. Clean the lint filter and check that the area around the unit has room for air. 3. Keep the unit off for a while before trying again. 4. Do not open any panel or touch the heating parts. 5. Note whether HC appeared during washing or drying.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether it came from the wash or dry side matters, and we need your cycle details to test the right circuit.
  • We check the thermistors and airflow before pointing at the heater or compressor.
  • We put the price in writing before any heating work, and workmanship is warranted for 30 days.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
HCHC questions
Does HC mean the same on wash and dry cycles?

Not exactly. On a wash cycle it points to the washing heater. On a dry cycle it points to an overheated compressor reading. Tell us which cycle you were running.

Is it safe to keep trying?

No. Repeated tries with an overheat reading can stress the unit. Let it cool and call us if HC comes back. The drum and the drying parts hold heat for a while after a cycle, so give them time before another try.

Will cleaning the filter help?

It can on the dry side, since poor airflow raises temperatures. If HC returns after cleaning, we test the thermistors and heating circuit. A clean filter also keeps the dryer working with less strain, so make it a habit.
