What E-51 means
Sense failure is the only wording given for E-51 on Samsung US microwaves. It means the control tried to read one of its sensing inputs and did not get a usable answer, without saying which input it was. The oven may refuse to start or end a program early, and the code stays on the display until you clear it.
Common causes of E-51
- A sensing input that returned no usable reading
- A loose connector in a sensor circuit
- Moisture affecting a sensor connection
1. Turn the breaker off or unplug the oven. 2. Leave it to dry if moisture got in. 3. A 60 second wait comes next, followed by power on. 4. Try a short timed cook with a cup of water. 5. Request service if the display returns to E-51.
- The message is general, so we begin with the sensors your model actually has and test each circuit.
- Replacing parts without that sorting is how a second visit happens.
- Nothing is replaced until you have approved a written price.

Which sensor does E-51 refer to?
The listing does not name one. That is why we check each sensing circuit on your model in turn, starting with the ones most likely to be wet or loose.
Is it urgent?
Not by itself, but an oven that shows a code on every start is not worth forcing. Use another way of cooking until we check it, and mention when the code first appeared.
Could this be cleared by a reset?
If moisture or a brief glitch caused it, yes. A code that returns after drying and the 60-second wait needs a proper check of the sensing circuits.
Still seeing E-51?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
