What E-11 means

E-11 shows on Samsung US microwaves with a sensor cooking feature and reports an open gas sensor error. That sensor reads the vapor food gives off while cooking, so the display is telling you the circuit to it is open, meaning the control cannot read any signal through it. The usual result is that the sensor cooking programs stop at the start, while the code stays on the display.

Common causes of E-11

  • The sensor circuit reading as open to the control
  • A loose or broken connection between the sensor and the control
  • Steam or moisture settled near the sensor
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Take the oven off power, either at the outlet or the breaker. 2. Let any moisture dry with the door open. 3. After a 60 second wait, turn power back on. 4. Start a manual timed cook rather than a sensor program and see whether the oven heats. 5. If the display shows E-11 once more, request service.

! Why to stop there
  • Open here describes a circuit that does not complete, but the break could sit in the sensor, a connector or the control input.
  • We trace the circuit in order instead of replacing a sensor on a guess.
  • You get the price in writing before work begins.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E-11E-11 questions
Can I keep cooking by time?

In many cases manual time cooking still works while a sensor program is blocked. If the oven runs a manual cycle normally, you can use it that way until we check the sensor circuit.

What does open mean on this code?

It means the control sees a broken path where it expects a complete one. It does not tell us which wire or part broke, which is why we test the circuit.

Did a boil-over cause this?

Heavy steam or a spill near the sensor can upset it, which is why the reset steps start with letting moisture dry. A returning code after drying points to a real circuit problem.
