What CE means

CE on a Samsung US dishwasher with a digital display is a communication error. The control panel cannot communicate with the rest of the dishwasher, so the keys and display are not talking to the boards that run the cycle. It applies across the brand and names no model. You will usually see the cycle refuse to start or stop partway, with CE on the display and the keys giving little or no response.

1. Turn the dishwasher off. 2. Wait a minute, then turn it back on. 3. Check that the door is shut and latched. 4. Start a short cycle and watch for CE. 5. If CE returns, leave the dishwasher off and call us.

What does CE actually mean?

The panel and the rest of the dishwasher stopped exchanging information. Neither side is named, so we test both ends of the link. That is why the code alone does not name a part.

Will turning it off clear CE?

It can when the link dropped briefly. If CE returns on the next cycle, the connection needs a proper check. A single clean cycle after a restart is a good sign, but watch the next few as well.

Is the dishwasher safe to use with CE?

Not reliably. The control may not manage the cycle properly, so we suggest leaving it off until it is checked. A control that has lost contact with its panel may behave unpredictably during a wash.
