What 9E means

A Samsung US dishwasher with a digital display shows 9E when there is not enough water in the tub. The control expected the water to reach a certain level during the cycle and it did not, so it stops and posts the code. This is a brand-wide code and names no particular model. You will usually see a tub with only a thin film of water, or dishes that come out dry and dirty on the upper rack.

Common causes of 9E

  • Water supply valve partly closed
  • Fill line kink or inlet restriction
  • Fill valve not opening fully
  • Level sensing reading wrong
  • A leak letting water out as fast as it comes in
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Empty the dishwasher. 2. Make sure the shutoff valve under the sink is fully open. 3. Add detergent to the drawer. 4. Run a Normal cycle. 5. If 9E returns, switch the breaker off and call us. Tell us how much water you saw in the tub.

! Why to stop there
  • A full supply does not tell us whether the fill valve opens or the level reading is correct.
  • We check for a hidden leak that would keep the level low.
  • The written price is yours to approve before work, and the job has a 30-day warranty on workmanship.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
9E9E questions
Is 9E the same as a water supply error?

It is related but different. A supply error is about pressure or temperature, while 9E says the tub did not reach its level. We check both the supply and the fill path.

Should I keep running the dishwasher?

Try one Normal cycle after the checks. If 9E comes back, turn the breaker off, because repeated tries do not help and a leak would only get worse.

Could it be a leak?

Possibly. Look under and around the dishwasher for moisture. If we find any, we trace it before testing the fill system. A slow leak and a weak fill can look the same on the display.
