What 1E / IE means
On Samsung dishwashers sold in the US with a digital display, 1E and IE share one code and mean different things by model type. On WaterWall models it points to a clogged filter, meaning water is not getting through the filter as it should. On Rotary models it means the heater reading is too high, so the temperature inside is too hot. Check which spray system your dishwasher uses first, because the checks that follow depend on it. You will see the code on the display and the cycle may stop.
Common causes of 1E / IE
- WaterWall: food debris packed into the fine filter at the tub floor
- Rotary: the temperature reading inside the tub
- Rotary: whether the code returns after the dishwasher has cooled and restarted
1. WaterWall models: remove the fine filter at the bottom of the tub and rinse away food debris, then reseat it. 2. Rotary models: switch the breaker off for 30 seconds, then back on. 3. Empty the dishwasher and make sure the detergent drawer is filled. 4. Run a Normal cycle. 5. If the code appears again, stop and call us.
- A clean filter does not prove the drain path and pump behind it are clear.
- On a Rotary model, a breaker reset does not tell us whether the heat reading is wrong or the water really is too hot.
- Our written quote comes first, and the 30-day workmanship warranty follows the job.

How do I know if I have a WaterWall or Rotary dishwasher?
WaterWall models have a flat wall of water spray at the back of the tub, while Rotary models use a rotating spray arm. The model label inside the door also helps us tell you which applies.
Why does the same code mean two things?
The two spray systems handle water and heat differently, so the display reports the condition that fits each. We ask which type you have so we check the right thing.
Can I just clean the filter and move on?
On a WaterWall model, yes, try that first. If 1E comes back after a clean filter, something deeper in the water path needs testing. A rinse under running water is usually enough to loosen trapped food.
