What E-62 means
When a Samsung US microwave shows E-62, the control has found the humidity sensor circuit shorted. This is the reverse of E-61: instead of a break, the circuit looks bridged and gives a reading no real cavity could produce. Programs that rely on humidity stop, and the display keeps the code until the oven is reset. Nothing you cooked or spilled needs to have caused it.
Common causes of E-62
- The humidity sensor circuit shorting at the sensor or its wiring
- Moisture bridging the sensor connection
- Damaged insulation on the sensor wires
1. Switch the breaker off or unplug the microwave. 2. Wet parts need time to dry before you carry on. 3. Give it 60 seconds, then restore power. 4. Run a short timed cook as a test with a cup of water. 5. Watch the display during the first minute for the code. 6. Request service if E-62 returns.
- A short may sit anywhere along the circuit, so we test each stretch.
- We also compare with the open case on E-61, because the two point to different problems in the wiring.

What is different from E-61?
E-61 is a break in the humidity sensor circuit and E-62 is a short. We handle them differently, even though your first steps are the same.
Can steam cause a short reading?
Heavy steam or a spill near the sensor can bridge its contacts and look like a short. If the code clears after drying and stays away, that was likely the cause.
Is it okay to run timed cooking?
Usually yes. Timed cooking does not need the humidity sensor, so use it if the oven runs normally, and skip the humidity programs until the circuit has been checked.
