What E-61 means

Humidity sensor open is the meaning of E-61 on Samsung US microwaves, so the control found a broken path in the circuit of the sensor that reads moisture in the cavity. Humidity-based programs will not run, and the cook cycle you picked ends before it starts. The oven may still cook by time, and the code shows on the display until the oven is reset.

Common causes of E-61

  • The humidity sensor circuit reading as open
  • A loose or broken connection to the sensor
  • Condensation near the sensor connection
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Pull the plug or switch the breaker off. 2. If moisture got in, leave the door open until the oven is dry. 3. After 60 seconds, turn power back on. 4. Try a timed cook rather than a humidity program. 5. If E-61 shows again, request service.

! Why to stop there
  • Open describes a circuit that does not complete, but it does not say whether the sensor or the wire is to blame.
  • We test the sensor and its wiring in order.
  • Price in writing before work.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E-61E-61 questions
Why is moisture part of the reset steps?

A sensor that measures humidity lives in a damp place, and wet connections can upset it. Drying first rules that out before we look at wiring or parts.

Can I cook normally in the meantime?

Often yes, by time. Humidity programs are the part that stops, and the heating itself may be fine, so test it with a cup of water for a minute.

Is E-61 a safety concern?

The code on its own is not. It tells you a sensing circuit needs a check, and nothing in it suggests danger to you or the kitchen.
