What HC1 (shown HE-1 in manual text) means

On Samsung DW80R and DW80T series dishwashers, including the DW80T5040US, HC1 is a check code for a heater that did not heat. The control saw the temperature change by 4 C or less over 10 minutes, twice, and concluded the water was not warming. Some printed material shows the same code as HE-1. It is a diagnostic code that only some units display, often through a recall display. Owners may find dishes cool and detergent undissolved.

Common causes of HC1 (shown HE-1 in manual text)

  • Heater not warming the water
  • Temperature sensing that lags behind the heater
  • Heater wiring and connection
  • Water level too low for the heater to work
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Turn the dishwasher off. 2. Empty it and make sure the detergent drawer is filled. 3. Confirm the supply valve is open and the tub fills normally. 4. Run a Normal cycle and feel whether the door warms. 5. If HC1 returns, call us.

! Why to stop there
  • A normal fill does not prove the heater is working or the reading is correct.
  • We test the heater and the temperature reading before choosing a part.
  • We put the quote on paper first, and 30 days of workmanship coverage stands behind the job.
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
HC1 (shown HE-1 in manual text)HC1 (shown HE-1 in manual text) questions
Is HC1 the same as HE-1?

The same condition is printed both ways in some material. It means the heater did not raise the temperature enough, and we test it as such.

How is HC1 different from HC?

HC1 is the water failing to warm. HC is the tub being too hot. They are opposite conditions, so the checks differ. We confirm which one you have before starting any test.

Will my dishes still be clean?

Maybe not. Cold water weakens detergent, so a repeat cycle will not fix the root problem. Rewashing the same load only repeats the problem, so wait for the heater test.
