Samsung Dishwasher Leaves Dishes Wet: Drying Problems and What Causes Them

Plastic stays wet and glasses carry water spots after a cycle. Some of that is normal, and some points to a heater, vent or rinse-aid issue. Here is how to tell which.

Damp dishes after the cycle ends are one of the most common complaints, and the first thing to know is that part of it is design. Many Samsung dishwashers dry with residual heat and condensation rather than a hot blast, so plastic, which holds less heat, often stays damp. That alone is not a failure.

What is normal

  • Water beads on plastic containers and the bottom of cups, with glass and stainless dry.
  • Dishes are cool to the touch, but dry within a few minutes of opening the door.

What is worth fixing

  • Empty rinse-aid dispenser. Rinse aid makes water sheet off, and without it everything stays spotted and wet. Refill it and run a cycle.
  • Heated dry turned off. Check the cycle options for a heated dry or extra dry setting.
  • Loading. Cups facing up hold a pool of water on the bottom. Tilt them or load them facing down on a slant.
  • Standing water in the tub. A little water in the bottom after the cycle is expected, but a deep pool means the drain is slow, and that is a different problem from drying.

When it points to a part

If dishes stay warm and wet after a full cycle and rinse aid is full, the heating element, a vent that does not open, or a temperature sensor may be involved. A full tub of cold water at cycle end, or a dishwasher that finishes with no warmth in the air, is the pattern that leads us to those parts. The wet dishes alone do not separate them from a settings issue, so rule out the list above first.

Houston water hardness also leaves film that looks like a drying problem. Cloudy glass that wipes off with vinegar is a mineral issue, not heat.

For a dishwasher that still dries poorly, schedule us from the dishwasher repair page. We cover the Houston-area counties we serve; you will have a written quote before we start, and a 30-day warranty on our workmanship afterward.

Tell us the model and the code. We will bring the part.
