What AP means

AP on Samsung refrigerators in the US with a numeric or alphanumeric display and Wi-Fi means Access Point. The refrigerator is acting as an access point so it can be set up for features such as SmartThings. It usually starts when the button is pressed and held during setup. The owner sees AP on the display. It is not an error, and it goes away when the setup finishes or when the setup times out.

Common causes of AP

  • Button held during Wi-Fi setup
  • Setup started and not finished
  • Setup waiting for the phone to connect
  • Button that is stuck or held by accident
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Finish the Wi-Fi setup in the SmartThings app if you meant to start it. 2. If you did not start setup, wait for it to time out. 3. Check that nothing is pressing the setup button. 4. Cooling is not affected, so there is no need to unplug the refrigerator.

! Why to stop there
  • If AP stays on long after setup ends, we check the panel button and the control
  • We confirm that the cooling side is working normally
  • A repair, if needed, is quoted in writing beforehand and carries a 30-day workmanship warranty
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
APAP questions
Does AP mean there is a problem?

No. AP stands for Access Point. The refrigerator is ready for Wi-Fi setup, and the message goes away on its own when setup completes or times out.

Why did AP appear when I did nothing?

The setup button may have been pressed and held by accident, or someone touched the panel. Waiting for the timeout normally clears it. That is normal for this message.

Is the cooling affected by AP?

No. The message is only about Wi-Fi setup. If AP never goes away, a stuck panel button is possible, and we can test it with a written price first.
