What Temperature display blinking means
On Samsung refrigerators in the US with a numeric or alphanumeric display, the panel, or part of it, may blink when the inside temperature is above 59 degrees F. This happens after a door was left ajar or after a power outage. The blinking stops automatically once the refrigerator cools, which can take up to 4 hours. The owner sees the temperature numbers blinking and may worry. In most cases it is a warning, not a code.
Common causes of Temperature display blinking
- Door left ajar
- Power outage that let the inside warm up
- Overpacked shelves that keep a door from sealing
- Cooling problem if the blinking lasts well beyond 4 hours
1. Check that both doors are fully closed and that nothing keeps a door ajar. 2. Check that the gaskets seal all the way around. 3. Keep the doors closed as much as possible. 4. Wait up to 4 hours for the temperature to come down. 5. If the refrigerator is still not cooling after that, request service.
- Blinking that continues after 4 hours means we test the cooling system
- We check the fans, the defrost circuit and the compressor operation to find the cause
- If cooling needs repair, you approve a written price first and receive 30 days of workmanship coverage

Why is my temperature display blinking?
The inside temperature went above 59 degrees F, perhaps from a door ajar or a power outage. The blinking stops on its own once the refrigerator cools down.
How long will it blink?
It can take up to 4 hours to cool back down after a door was left ajar or after an outage. Keep the doors shut and give it time.
When is blinking a real problem?
If it lasts longer than about 4 hours or the compartments stay warm, cooling is not recovering. We test the fans, the defrost circuit and the compressor operation.
