What CL means
CL on a Samsung dryer with a digital display is the Child Lock indicator, not an error. Child Lock stops children from opening or controlling the dryer by disabling the panel buttons, and on some models it also locks the door. The dryer shows CL when you press a button while the lock is active. Nothing is wrong with the dryer. It only needs the lock turned off.
Common causes of CL
- Child Lock switched on by a button hold on the panel
- Child Lock turned on by accident while cleaning the panel
- A model where Child Lock also holds the door
1. Look at the panel for a Child Lock button or a button hold listed in your user manual. 2. Press and hold the button that your model uses to turn Child Lock off. 3. Wait for CL to clear from the display. 4. Start your cycle. If the panel stays unresponsive, check the user manual for your model.
- If Child Lock will not turn off, the panel may not be reading the buttons, which is a separate issue from CL.
- We test whether the panel registers presses and whether the door lock releases.
- You see the price in writing before we start, and we give a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Dryer codes
Is CL an error on my Samsung dryer?
No. CL means Child Lock is on. It disables the panel buttons so children cannot run the dryer, and you turn it off the way your user manual describes. It is a setting that was switched on, not a failure.
Why will the dryer door not open with CL showing?
On some models, Child Lock also locks the door. Turning the lock off as your user manual describes releases the door again, and the dryer then opens and runs normally.
How is CL different from CL1?
No. CL1 is a Vent Blockage test message about laundry in the drum, while CL is the Child Lock indicator. The strings look alike but mean different things.
