What Blinking: Normal, Delicate + Quick / Normal, Delicate + Smart Auto / Normal, Quick+ + Smart Auto / Smart Auto, Normal + Delicate means
On Samsung dishwashers without a digital display, a trio of blinking lights that includes Normal reports incoming water that is too hot, above 176 F. Examples are Normal, Delicate and Quick, or Normal, Quick+ and Smart Auto, and the names change with the model. Digital-display models show the same condition as 3E. It is mostly about your home's hot water supply rather than the dishwasher itself, so the first checks happen at the water heater.
Common causes of Blinking: Normal, Delicate + Quick / Normal, Delicate + Smart Auto / Normal, Quick+ + Smart Auto / Smart Auto, Normal + Delicate
- Hot water supply temperature above 176 F
- The water heater setting
- A supply that is not tempered before the dishwasher
1. Check that your hot water supply is not above 176 F. 2. If the water heater is set very high, lower it. 3. Run the kitchen faucet until the water cools. 4. Restart the dishwasher. 5. If the lights blink again with a normal supply temperature, call us. Note which lights were flashing before you call.
- If the supply is within range and the lights persist, the dishwasher's own reading may be off.
- We tell a hot supply from a misreading sensor before replacing anything.
- We put the quote in writing first, and the job is warranted for 30 days.

How can I tell if my water is too hot?
The water heater dial is the easiest place to look. Anything above 176 F is what this pattern reports. Do not guess by touch, since scalding is a real risk.
Is this the same as the dishwasher overheating?
No. That is the tub temperature. This is the water coming in. Water entering too hot and a hot tub need different checks. It is worth keeping the two apart, because the fix for each is different.
Will lowering the water heater fix it?
Often, yes. If the lights stay on after the supply cools, we test the dishwasher's reading. Wait for the supply to settle before you try another cycle.
