What C90 / C9 means
C90 or C9 is a result from the Vent Blockage test on Samsung dryers with a digital display. It reports that over 90 percent of the vent is clogged, which is close to a full stop of airflow. The dryer will struggle to dry anything and runs hot while it tries. You will see C90 or C9 when the test finishes, and cycles may already be taking much longer than normal.
Common causes of C90 / C9
- A vent duct nearly packed with lint
- A flattened or disconnected vent hose behind the dryer
- A lint filter that is heavily clogged
- An outside hood that is stuck shut or covered
1. Stop using the dryer and unplug it. 2. Remove the lint filter and clean it, along with its housing. 3. Pull the dryer out and take the vent hose off the back. Clear lint from the hose and the wall duct opening. 4. Go outside and clear the vent hood. 5. Reconnect the duct without kinks and run the test again.
- A nearly blocked vent can hide a long run of lint we cannot see from the dryer, so we check airflow along the whole route.
- Once the vent is clear, we confirm the dryer has not been damaged by heat.
- We give you a written price before work and a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Dryer codes
How serious is C90 on a Samsung dryer?
More serious than C80. Over 90 percent of the vent is blocked, so the dryer runs hot and dries poorly. Clean the vent before using the dryer again.
Do C9 and C90 differ?
Yes. They are two spellings of the same over-90-percent result, and which one appears depends on the display on your model. The checks and the cleaning are the same either way.
How often should I clean the vent?
We suggest checking the lint filter every load and having the full duct cleaned if drying times grow long. A blocked duct is the usual reason for this code.
