What 9C1 / 9E / 2E means
On Samsung dryers with a digital display, including the DV45H series that shows 9E1 for over voltage, these codes report an abnormal voltage supplied to the dryer. The dryer stops and shows the code until the supply is right. On a stacked washer and dryer with a multi-control kit, the washer can report a dryer 9C1 if the dryer is operated within 5 seconds of switching the washer on. A SmartThings update corrects that case.
Common causes of 9C1 / 9E / 2E
- A dryer sharing its circuit or fed through an extension cord
- A power cord installed incorrectly on an electric dryer
- A supply voltage that does not match what the dryer is built for
- A stacked pair where the washer controls the dryer too soon after power-up
1. Plug the dryer straight into its own outlet, with no extension cord and no other large appliance on that circuit. 2. On an electric dryer, check that the power cord is installed correctly and that the home supplies the right voltage. 3. On a stacked pair, wait longer after turning the washer on before touching the dryer controls. 4. A dryer taken from another country can show this code for good reason. 5. Restart the dryer. If the code returns, stop using it.
- If the house supply is the issue, it needs an electrician, and we can tell you whether it is the house or the dryer.
- We measure the voltage reaching the dryer and inspect the cord connection at the terminal block.
- On a stacked pair, we check the control kit and its software before replacing anything.
- We quote in writing before work and give a 30-day workmanship warranty.
Other Dryer codes
What is the difference between 9C1, 9E, and 2E?
They are listed together as voltage errors. The DV45H series calls 9E1 an over-voltage condition. On the screen they all mean the dryer sees a supply it should not run on.
Why does my stacked dryer show 9C1 when I only started the washer?
With a multi-control kit, using the dryer controls within 5 seconds of powering on the washer can cause the washer to report 9C1 for the dryer. A SmartThings update addresses it.
Is it safe to keep using the dryer?
Not while the code is showing. A supply outside the dryer's range can damage the heater and control. Correct the cord, outlet, or circuit first, and call us if the code stays.
